How to Program Your Blog Posts

Published by michaelnolan at 6:00 am under How Do I...? Edit This

One of the toughest things about blogging is that the real world can sometimes get in the way of keeping us on task and on schedule.  What happens if a child gets sick or you have to take an unexpected trip and your blog sits dormant for a couple of days?  Not only have you missed a couple of days worth of pay but your readers will wonder why you left them high and dry.

Luckily there’s a way to ensure this doesn’t happen to you.

By pre-programming your blog posts several days in advance you ensure that your blog will have fresh content even when you’re not present to post on a given day.  This is a fantastic way to keep up with your paid blog posts without interfereing with your day job or family life.  All you have to do is spend an hour or so writing several blog posts and then set them to appear on the date and time you choose.  Here’s how it’s done:

Timestamp WidgetWhen you have written your post, scroll down on the same page before you publish and look for the widget that looks like the one on the left.

Place a mark in the box next to “Edit timestamp”, then change the date and time in the boxes below it.  Remember that the time is in military (24 hour) increments, so 16:13 is 5:13pm, whereas 06:00 would be 6:00am.

Once you have finished writing your blog post and you have adjusted the time stamp you can then scroll back up and click the “Publish” button as usual.  Your post will then appear on the date and time you have selected as though you were always there!

I love this feature! Thank you for sharing it with us, everyone can use this. I went ahead and did entries in advance for the holidays when I doubt I’ll be logging in much! ;D

Ah, thanks so much for this! I presumed that’s what that little timestamp box did but I couldn’t be sure.

    Cheers.
